Step-by-Step: How to Place DIY Braces Brackets Safely | Sino Dental

📺 Watch First: Video Tutorial
We highly recommend watching our full video guide below before you begin. It will give you a clear visual overview of the entire process.

Before You Begin: Preparation is Key

  1. Work in a Clean, Well-Lit Area: Ensure your space is clean and you have a good mirror.

  2. Organize Your Tools: Lay out everything from your kit: brackets, light cure machine, adhesive, pliers, cotton rolls, and a mirror.

  3. Prepare Your Teeth: Brush and floss thoroughly. Moisture is the enemy of a strong bond, so this step is crucial.

The Step-by-Step Bracket Placement Process

Follow these steps carefully for the best results.

Step 1: Isolate and Dry the Tooth

Use a cotton roll  to isolate the tooth you are working on. Use a dry cotton roll to thoroughly dry the tooth surface. It must be completely dry.

Step 2: Prepare the Tooth Surface

  • Apply a tiny amount of ETCHANT to the center of the tooth's surface where the bracket will go. Wait for 15-30 seconds.

  • Rinse the etchant off completely and dry the tooth again.

  • Apply a thin layer of PRIMER to the same area and gently blow air over it to thin it out.

Step 3: Apply the Bonding Adhesive

  • Dispense a very small drop of ADHESIVE PASTE onto a clean, dry surface.

  • Using the tip of an applicator or a probe, pick up a tiny amount of ADHESIVE PASTE—just enough to cover the back of the bracket.

  • Apply the adhesive to the base of the bracket. Less is more. Excess adhesive will squeeze out around the edges and feel bulky.

Step 4: Position and Place the Bracket

  • Using your orthodontic tweezers or placement tool, gently pick up the bracket.

  • Carefully position it on the center of the tooth surface.Check the placement from different angles.

  • Once you are happy with the position, press the bracket firmly against the tooth. Hold it steady and try not to let it slide.

Step 5: Cure the Adhesive with the Light

  • This is the most important step! Turn on your dental LED CURING LIGHT (from Sino Dental Group).

  • Position the light tip as close as possible to the bracket without touching it.

  • Shine the light directly onto the bracket for  5-10 seconds per bracket. Do not look directly into the blue light.(When using the UV curing machine, please be sure to wear protective goggles.

Step 6: Check Your Work

After curing, gently use a tool or your fingernail to see if the bracket is firmly attached. It should not wiggle or move. If it feels loose, check for moisture contamination and repeat the process.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Problem: Too much adhesive squeezed out.

    • Solution: Use less adhesive next time. You can carefully remove excess cured adhesive with a dental pick or scaler.

  • Problem: The bracket is crooked.

    • Solution: You can make micro-adjustments before you start curing. Once the light cure process begins, the adhesive starts to set immediately.

  • Problem: The bracket doesn't feel secure after curing.

    • Solution: The tooth was likely not dry enough. Remove the bracket, clean the tooth, and start over, ensuring the surface is completely dry.

⚠️ Final Safety Warning

STOP if you feel any significant discomfort or uncertainty. This is a precise process. Do not attempt to use too much force or use materials not intended for oral use. If a bracket continues to fail to stick, it is best to try another tooth or pause and revisit the tutorial.
